Vickers-Armstrong V.1000
March 27, 2008
Another magnificent 'might have been' that never flew - drawn by Ian Bott and animated by Mario Lendvai. The Vickers-Armstrongs V.1000 was proposed as a jet RAF transport and commercial airliner but was never completed. Could this aircraft have transformed the jetliner market, and Britain's place in it have. Would the V.1000 have been Britain's equivalent of the hugely successful Boeing 707?
Click here to view an artist's impression and animated view of the V.1000, and see 'Opportunity Lost' in May's Aeroplane magazine in which Barry Jones laments the 1955 political decision to cancel this truly visionary project.
