Skua recovered in Norway
May 1, 2008
Sixty-eight years after it ditched during an attack on the German battle cruiser Scharnhorst, Blackburn Skua Mk II L2896 broke the surface of Trondheimfjord in Norway on April 8. Discovered lying at a depth of 800ft in April 2007, the aircraft suffered considerable damage during the delicate lifting operation. Nevertheless, the leader of Operation Skua, Øyvind Lamo, expressed satisfaction with what had been achieved, saying “We have the complete centre section, wings, most of the tail and about 50 per cent of what's in between”.
This is just a taster — see June's Aeroplane magazine for the full story.
