The driving force behind LAC and the new 'Lightning' is experienced pilot and aircraft constructor Larry Buchanan who says: "(My) vision has always been a twin-engine kit that would satisfy the desires of serious pilots.

"At 38 feet it has a shorter wingspan than the original but this allows the aircraft to fit in a standard US hangar", he continues. "We wanted to keep the aircraft as faithful to the original as possible - it even has a control wheel like the original which actually makes is easier to fly."

Buchannan describes the Ligntning replica as "... a serious two place (seat) aircraft that will be capable of cruising at 250 KTS, with a range of 2500 miles and a ceiling of 25,000 feet."

Unlike Lockheed's original which featured twin 12-cylinder Allison V-1710s, LAC's replica is powered by supercharged and watercooled General Motors V8s - power plants proven in aviation use for their reliability, and capable of developing in excess of 425 bhp.

The LAC Lightning is designed to be built from a quick-build kit and will be delivered complete with engines and every component required down to the customer's choice of paint. Purchaser will also be offered the opportunity to build their aircraft in LAC's 45,000 square foot assembly shop at El Monte under an 'owner build assist' program.

LAC's website at http://www.flylightning.com is currently under development but Larry Buchanan can be contacted on 1-626-444 7739, or by email at Buclary@msn.com
