Britain clocks up 100 years of aviation
October 30, 2008
"It was brilliantly British — understated; thoughtful but not too formal; engagingly amateur in places; plenty of substance; fun". In December's Aeroplane magazine: Editor Michael Oakey's report on the celebrations at Farnborough to mark the 100th anniversary of the first powered aeroplane flight in the UK, made by pioneer S.F. Cody on October 16, 1908.
Graham Rood of the FAST Museum at Farnborough looks on as smoke and noise heralds the dramatised re-enactment of Cody's first flight, using the museums' newly-completed static replica of British Army Aeroplane No 1A. Find out more about the replica at www.codyflyerproject.com
